Troker weaves together jazz, funk, hip hop, rock, and the mariachi horns of Mexico into a sound that is at once cohesive and chaotic. The band was formed in 2003 in the local bars of Guadalajara, and went on to become the first group to ever perform at the Glastonbury Music Festival for two consecutive years. In 2014 they released their critically acclaimed album Crimen Sonoro. Critics called it “the coolest, most amazing stuff.” The rhythm section of Samo González bass and Frankie Mares drums are stubbornly funky, as Christian Jiménez’s crunchy keyboards bring both jazz and metal elements, while DJ Zero’s turntables inject hip hop to the mix. The dual horns of Arturo Santillanes saxophone and Gil Cervantes trumpet are responsible for the mariachi layer. Think of them as a south-of-the-border hybrid of Medeski, Martin and Wood and the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey.
