"I met Mike Stewart in the mid-80s when we (Blue Sky) shared a gig with Flux at the White Eagle Hall. Mike was drumming with them - Tim MacMorland - guitar, Norm Piercy - bass and Brent Hutchinson - sax. They sounded great! I think I also met my close friend Gary Thompson that day.
Gary knew Mike well and had this to say, "I met Mike Stewart in the early 80s, he was a great drummer and was in great bands. They put on great dances, that were always sold out. I got a hold of another drum kit and he gave me lessons, we also traveled to Drums Only (in Vancouver) and he helped me pick out my Gretsch kit and cymbals. If you hung out with Mike your belly would hurt from laughing so much, I miss him!!" Dave Harris
"I knew Mike well and he was a big part of my growth musically. I didn't play gigs with him, but we jammed for a few years at his place on Stelly's and W. Saanich in the late 70s. He got me into the Stones and blues when I was more into prog rock, so it really gave my playing a good mix of both. He loved the Stones and was a big fan of Charlie Watts. I'm very fond of those years. I was about 14 when we met and I played with him until I joined a band here called Tyrro and went out on the road, seeking fame and fortune. 😆 We kept in touch after but didn't play together much, which I regret now." Bob Belknap
"Mike was a solid drummer and even though his roots were primarily based in Rock and Roll, he quickly embraced playing the blues, perfecting his shuffle groove. Mike was easy to work with, which made playing with him so enjoyable. He was a gentle affable person who is greatly missed. RIP Mike." Sharon Wadsworth
He also had his own band in the 90s called Tids and the Kids. Tids was his nickname. Gary Thompson adds this, "Add ten years; we're playing at Hermann's Jazz Club (playing blues). Mike asks me to play guitar for his set, I had a great time so we started practicing and I became a guest member of Tids and the Kids!!" Dave Harris
