David Vest | The Dawn of Rock and Roll, Part 2 - Mar. 21, 2026

David Vest and his red-hot band have been revisiting The Dawn of Rock and Roll this year. Part 1 (in January) looked at artists on the Sun Records label. Part 2 takes a wider view, with music by Ricky Nelson, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, Dion, Buddy Holly, Bill Doggett and others who rocked the world at about the time David got going himself.

David actually played with Bo Diddley, shook hands with Chuck Berry, and saw Ricky Nelson live in 1961.

A six-time Maple Blues Award winner, David is currently a Canadian Blues Music Awards nominee in two categories (keyboard playing and record of the year). He is signed to Cordova Bay Records.

The band includes Tom Bowler on guitar and vocals, Ryan Tandy on bass, Damian Graham on drums, and Ryan Oliver on sax. Yes, it's a blues band, and they all play jazz, but you'll have a hard time finding anybody who can out-rock them.
