Mike has been a singer-songwriter since the early 80s. Starting with a new wave original project in Edmonton, Mike moved to Vancouver in 1983 to attend the Music Therapy program at Capilano College. Moving to Victoria in 1985 to take a BA in Child and Youth Care, Mike continued writing and formed the original band Jho Nek Bhone, which was a staple at Harpos for several years, opening for acts such as The Odds, The Pursuit of Happiness and The Posies. In 1992 Jho Nek Bhone signed a development deal with Vancouver Studios (now Greenhouse) and was produced by Marc Raemer, who assisted Ben Mink on KD Lang's Grammy award-winning Constant Craving.
Jho Nek Bhone toured Canada and then broke up in early 1993. Mike took a break from performing and started up a youth centre in Langford, which was eventually equipped with a recording studio providing demos and recording equipment to young musicians such as an unknown band called Pilot Light, whose members went on to form Hot Hot Heat. After a discussion with the members of Hot Hot Heat (in 1993), Mike learned of a new wave revival and was a founding member of Nuvo Wavo. Mike’s current projects include The Weekend Millionaires and plays 4 shows a week all summer on Salt Spring Island at The Shipstones Restaurant. Mike is releasing a solo CD “Community” in the early summer.
